Patriot League Preview

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After competing at nine different meets since early December, the Lehigh women's track and field team will compete at the Patriot League Indoor Championships this weekend at Boston University. The Mountain Hawks will be in search of their first ever Patriot League team championship.

Two Lehigh athletes enter the weekend boasting the Patriot League's top performances of the season in their respective events, including Gabrielle Wardle's pentathlon score of 3,432 and Courtney Avery's high jump of 1.75 meters. Twelve others also rank in the league's top five for the season.

TRACK

Sprints
Liyala Dickens will represent the Brown and White in both the 60 and 200 meter dashes after setting new PRs in both events at last weekend's Bucknell Tune-Up. The 400 meter dash will feature Lindsay Voltz and Kristen Lavallee. Lavallee also set a new PR at Bucknell; a new indoor benchmark of 1:01.03 in her sixth place finish last weekend. Voltz set a season-best time at the Bucknell Tune-Up in the 400 dash, and picked up a win this year in the 500 meter dash at the Covert Classic. She will compete in the 500m dash at this year's championships along with teammates Hanna Brosky and Rachel Okun. Okun has a pair of runner-up finishes under her belt in 2015-16, and Brosky's converted time of 1:14.81 at Bucknell ranks fourth in the league this season.

Clare Severe and Tyler Scanlin will be Lehigh's two reps in the 800 meter. Both runners rank high in the league with Severe's (2:14.73) and Scanlin's (2:15.60) converted times against Lafayette ranking seventh and 11th, respectively in the PL.

Severe will also join Marissa Karl, Hannah Leskow and Ann O'Connell on the track for the 1,000 meter run. Karl turned in the fifth fastest league time this year at the Armory Invitational, a PR of 2:53.34.

Mid Distance/Distance
Lehigh's largest group of the weekend will run the mile, as Laura Barnes, Stephanie Hayes and Brenna Clark will join Severe, Karl and Leskow as Lehigh's six runners. Severe and Karl hold the team's top two seed times, followed by Barnes who set a new PR at the Armory Invite.

Elizabeth Weiler headlines Lehigh's trio of runners in the 3,000 meter event, capturing her season best mark at the Armory Track Invite. Maura Henderson also turned out the fastest time of her freshman season at The Armory, and was named the Patriot League's Rookie of the Week on January 18.

Weiler will join fellow senior Arielle Weiner for the 5,000 meter run. Weiner set a career benchmark of 18:16.63 at The Armory this year, and Weiler enters with no seed time from this season, but a career mark of 16:55.56 from the 2015 Armory Invite.

Hurdles/Relays
Katie Hatler and Natalie Jacobs will both enter the championships ranked in the top five in the league this season in the 60m hurdles. Hatler has two wins and two runner-up performances in the hurdles this year and Jacobs' new career-best 8.93 second race against Lafayette currently ranks fifth in the league. Freshman Noreen Byrne will also join the fold for the hurdles in her PLC debut.

The Mountain Hawks will also have one team compete in each of the three relays: the 4x400, 4x800 and 4,000 distance medley relay.

FIELD

Jumps
School record holder Courtney Avery enters with the top high jump in the league this season at 1.75 meters. She has hit the mark three times this season, winning on all three occasions. Brittany Le Jouan set a new PR at the Lafayette dual meet of 1.70m and will be accompanied by Wardle and freshmen Olivia Reinold and Tyler Bannister.

Wardle will also compete as Lehigh's top seed in the long jump, leaping a career distance of 5.53 meters against Lafayette on Jan. 25. Kiana Wright and Courtney Wu will both be called upon in the long jump and triple jump, with Le Jouan and Byrne joining them for the triple.

Freshman Kaitlyn Toman leads the Lehigh pole vaulters after clearing the bar at 3.50 meters twice this season. Bannister will also compete at the meet, holding a season-high vault of 3.20m.

Throws
Amanda Youngblood (12.99m), Sarah Cassidy (12.16m) and Nia Baker (12.07m) will compete in the shot put, after all ranking in the top 11 of the league this season. Michael Bubak and Paige Grossman will join the fold for the weight throw. Bubak and Youngblood both sit in the top five of the league this year, with Bubak's 15.89m PR ranking fourth in 2015-16.

Pentathlon
Wardle and Cassidy will each compete in their third pentathlon of the year, with Wardle finishing second at the Fast Times Meet, one spot ahead of Cassidy. The duo later took part at the Thundering Herd Invitational, where there were joined by Bannister, who will also compete this weekend in Boston.

The 2016 championships are slated to begin at noon on Friday at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center. A live video stream of the event will be available through the Patriot League Network for all of Sunday's action. Be sure to check back to Lehighsports.com and the Patriot League's Championship Central Page for schedules, live results and complete championship information.
