
Mountain Hawks travel to Holy Cross Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team looks to bounce back from a tough loss to first-place Bucknell when the Mountain Hawks head to Holy Cross Sunday at 1 p.m. in a key Patriot League battle. The Mountain Hawks got within five points of league-leading Bucknell on multiple occasions in the second half, but couldn't complete the comeback attempt as Lehigh fell 67-54 to the Bison Wednesday night. Senior Elizabeth Sharlow led the Mountain Hawks with 13 points behind a 6-for-8 showing from the field, while classmate Kerry Kinek followed with 11 points and a team-best seven rebounds. Junior Lexi Martins and sophomore Quinci Mann chipped in eight points apiece.
Lehigh finished the game shooting 36.2 percent (21-for-58) from the field, 26.3 percent from three-point range (5-for-19) and 70 percent (7-for-10) from the free-throw line. The Bison went 43.9 percent (25-for-57) from the field and 45 percent (9-for-20) from downtown. Bucknell held a 40-29 rebound advantage.
Lehigh had won six-straight games prior to the loss to Bucknell and currently sits in third place in the Patriot League standings with an 8-4 league record that is part of a 15-8 overall mark. Martins leads the team with 14.4 points and 14.1 rebounds per game, while Mann follows with 13.1 points per contest. Kinek has chipped in 12.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
Holy Cross enters Saturday's game in fourth place in the Patriot League standings with a 7-5 league mark that is part of a 15-8 overall record. The Crusaders are just one game behind third-place Lehigh. Holy Cross will be looking to secure back-to-back wins for the first time since its 3-0 start to Patriot League play. The Crusaders earned a 57-54 win at Lafayette in their most recent action Wednesday. Lafayette held a 29-23 lead with 7:09 left in the third quarter, but the Crusaders erupted on a 17-2 surge to take a 40-31 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. The Leopards would not regain the lead or tie the score for the remainder of the contest.
Katie Doherty led Holy Cross with 16 points, while Tricia Byrne followed with 12 points. Molly Hourigan pulled down a team-best eight rebounds to go along with nine points.
Infiniti Thomas-Waheed leads the team with an average of 12.3 points per game, while Lisa Mifsud follows with 11.5 points per contest. Hourigan has chipped in 8.6 points and 8.8 boards per game. As a team, the Crusaders have been outscored by an average of 0.5 points per game and hold a -5.5 rebound margin.

Kinek scored a season-high 23 points and added 12 rebounds to lead the Mountain Hawks with her fifth double-double of the season. Kinek's 23 points came from a 9-for-20 showing from the field and a 4-for-5 effort from the free throw line. Mann followed with 16 points, marking her tenth-straight double-digit effort. Martins pulled down 12 rebounds to go along with seven points, while senior Amina Affini dished a team-best four assists. Holy Cross was led by Mifsud with 20 points and Hourigan with 12 points and 14 rebounds. The Mountain Hawks finished the game shooting 32.2 percent (19-for-59) from the field, highlighted by a 41.0 (13-for-31) first-half percentage.
Following Saturday's game, Lehigh will return home to host Navy at 7 p.m. Saturday inside Stabler Arena.
