BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer team capped off the 2016 season with its annual year end banquet on November 27. The team took the time to reflect back on the season and distribute the annual team awards to the individuals whose performances both on and off the field made a significant impact to the program.
Sophomore forward Mark Forrest garnered the team's Athlete of the Year Award, which is awarded to the student-athlete who makes the most outstanding contribution to the athletic success of the team. Forrest led the team for the second-straight season in goals with a total of seven this past season. He also posted a team-high tying four assists as he led the team with 18 points. He also tied for the team lead with two game-winning goals and one penalty kick goal.
Senior goalkeeper Jacob Gottwald earned the team's Scholar-Athlete Award, which is presented to the student-athlete who exemplifies academic success along with strong play on the field. Gottwald boasts a 3.60 grade point average as a mechanical engineering major. He has been a four-time member of the Dean's List and three-time selection to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll entering his senior year.
Junior Kevin Klinkenberg earned recognition for his contributions as he was the recipient of the Coaches Award. The honor is presented to the student-athlete who made noteworthy contributions to the team in areas of attitude, improvement and leadership. Having appeared in just two games prior to this season, the junior became a regular starter in 2016, drawing 16 starts and appearing all 18 of the team's contests while playing various positions throughout the season.
"I am pleased to announce the year end award winners for the Lehigh Men's Soccer program that were presented at our banquet," said head coach Dean Koski, "While I am proud of Mark, Jake and Kevin, I know that each of them feel strongly that their individual accomplishments are representative of their commitment to the team."
