
Lehigh Returns Home to Host Delaware State on Education Day

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After opening up the season with two games this past weekend, the Lehigh women's basketball team returns home on Wednesday morning to host Delaware State for the seventh-annual Education Day. Lehigh will welcome approximately 4,000 students from numerous Bethlehem-area schools to Stabler Arena as part of the day's festivities. The 11 a.m. game will be broadcast live on Service Electric 2 Sports and streamed live online for free through the Patriot League Network.

Lehigh is 2-2 over the last four years on Education Day after falling to St. Joseph's 63-62 last season, and defeating Hampton 85-67 in 2014.

Lehigh (1-1) enters the game coming off their first loss of the season, a 63-49 setback at Duquesne on Sunday. Duquesne shot 61 percent in the opening quarter to jump out to 30-13 lead, but Lehigh's defense held the Dukes to just 15.5 percent shooting the rest of the game. Duquesne out-rebounded the Mountain Hawks 69-40 overall, and 35-10 on the offensive glass, while Lehigh shot 28.1 percent for the game, comparted to Duquesne's 26.3 percent shooting from the field. Lehigh outscored Duquesne 27-19 in the second half as Quinci Mann led all scorers with 22 points for the second straight game. Freshman Camryn Buhr tallied six points and six rebounds, and classmate Cameryn Benz collected seven points, four rebounds and one block.

Lehigh opened up its season last Friday at Stabler Arena with a 78-72 win over East Stroudsburg. Mann led the way with 22 points and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Freshman Gena Grundhoffer scored 15 points and collected nine rebounds in her collegiate debut and junior Bernadette Devaney added 10 points off the bench for Lehigh.

Through the first weekend of play, Freshman Grundhoffer is one of only three players in the Patriot League to have a perfect free throw percentage of 1.000 (5-for-5) through the first weekend of the season. Quinci Mann ranks second in the league in both points per game (22) and 3PT FG made per game (2.5).

Delaware State is off to a 0-2 start so far this season following a 90-71 loss at home to Detroit Mercy to open the season, and a 69-44 defeat at Drexel this past Sunday. The Lady Hornets have lost four in a row overall dating back to their final two games of last season.

Delaware State started off last season on a five-game skid and finished the year with a 9-21 record and a 2-12 mark on the road. DSU was picked to finish 11th in the 2016-17 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) women's basketball preseason poll. The Lady Hornets finished 10th in the MEAC standings last season with a record of 6-10 in conference play and lost to seventh-seeded Florida A&M in the opening round of the MEAC Tournament.

Delaware State returns seven letter winners from last season led by last year's MEAC Rookie-of-the-Year and 2016 MEAC Preseason First Team selection, NaJai Pollard. The sophomore forward was fifth in the MEAC in rebounding (8.3 rpg) and 13th in scoring (11.6 ppg) during the 2015-16 season. She posted a team-high eight double-doubles as a freshman. She was second on the team in scoring, while leading the team in rebounding, field goals and blocks last season. She grabbed 10-or-more rebounds in 11 games, including a career-high 15 on two separate occasions.

The Lady Hornets are averaging 57.5 points per game and hauling in an average of 39.0 rebounds per game through two games this season. DSU has a scoring differential of -22.0 points per game and a rebounding differential of -4.5 per game through two games this season. Delaware State is shooting 34 percent from the floor, including 24 percent from three-point range, and 60 percent from the free-throw line.

Lehigh has won all four matchups against MEAC opponents dating back to the beginning of the 2010-11 season, when Lehigh defeated Howard, 56-29. Since then, Lehigh has defeated Hampton in 2014 and 2015, plus Delaware State in Nov. 2015.

After Wednesday's showdown, Lehigh will return to Stabler Arena on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. against Sacred Heart.
