Complete 2017 Schedule
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh head women's lacrosse coach Jill Redfern announced the team's 2017 schedule on Friday, a challenging slate featuring four games against NCAA Tournament teams from last season. Highlighting the nonleague schedule are road games at defending Final Four team Penn State, and National Quarterfinalist Penn. The Mountain Hawks also host two other tournament teams from last season, Wagner and Loyola.
In total, Lehigh will play 16 games, six at home and 10 on the road.
"This schedule provides lots of challenges and opportunities for our team to develop over the course of the spring," said Redfern. "Last season required a focus on a majority of home games. The 2017 season will require us to add a very strong road game to our arsenal."
Lehigh opens its slate on Saturday, Feb. 18 when it heads to Penn State to face the Nittany Lions. Last season, Penn State advanced all the way to the National Semifinals where it dropped a slim 12-11 final to eventual National Champion North Carolina.
The following Saturday, the Mountain Hawks head to Iona before their home opener against NEC Champion Wagner on Saturday, Mar. 4. Lehigh then travels to Penn three days later to face the Quakers on Tuesday, Mar. 7. Penn was the No. 7 seed in last season's NCAA Tournament, finishing the year 15-5.
Lehigh continues its nonleague slate with a pair of games in Virginia over spring break, traveling to Richmond on Saturday, Mar. 11 and VCU on Tuesday, Mar. 14.
The Mountain Hawks open Patriot League play on Saturday, Mar. 18 at Holy Cross. Last season, Lehigh earned a 12-7 win over the Crusaders in the league opener for both sides.
Lehigh will host Columbia on Wednesday, Mar. 22, then travel to American on Saturday, Mar. 25. Lehigh will then head home for two straight games, against Navy on Wednesday, Mar. 29 and Boston University on Saturday, Apr. 1.
Lehigh will alternate home and road games the rest of the way, traveling to Army West Point on Saturday, Apr. 8 before hosting defending Patriot League champion Loyola on Saturday, Apr. 15. The Mountain Hawks travel to Lafayette on Wednesday, Apr. 19, host Colgate on Saturday, Apr. 22 then wrap up the regular season at Bucknell on Friday, Apr. 28.
The Patriot League Tournament begins with the quarterfinals on Tuesday, May 2 while the semifinals are set for Friday and Sunday, May 5 and 7, at the No. 1 overall seed.
Last season, the Mountain Hawks played in their third straight Patriot League Tournament, advancing to the semifinal round for the first time since 2011. Lehigh ended its 2016 season with a 13-5 record, just one win from tying the school record after winning a school-record six Patriot League games in the regular season. The Mountain Hawks earned a big win at Boston University while hosting, and winning, a league tournament game for the first time since 2010. Lehigh returns a strong group of players in 2017, led by seniors Julianne D'Orazio, Allison LaBeau and Lauren Beausoleil, who all earned All-Patriot League honors in 2016.
