2015 Schedule
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head coach Dean Koski has announced the 2015 men's soccer schedule as the Mountain Hawks aim to build upon the momentum from a 10-win season in 2014. The Mountain Hawks will play ten home games at the Ulrich Sports Complex, including the 2015 season opener against Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, August 28.
Following the season opener against the Knights, Lehigh will host ACC foe Pittsburgh on Sunday, August 30. The Mountain Hawks will then hit the road for four of their next five matches, all against non-league opponents. The road swing begins on Sept. 2 at Manhattan before Lehigh hosts Cornell on Sept. 7 in the first of seven contests against opponents that won at least ten games a season ago.
"I always like our non-league schedule because it gives us a look at different teams from different conferences and different areas," said Koski. "It's important for the overall competitive experience as well as tweaking lineups and figuring out how we're going to play come Patriot League play. We're seeing some new teams that we haven't played in many years, such as Pitt, Cornell and Delaware and I'm really excited about our non-league schedule."
Action resumes with a three-game road trip that kicks off on Sept. 13 against Delaware, a team that went 13-6-1 and made a CAA Championship appearance in 2014. The Mountain Hawks then make a weekend trip to the western part of Pennsylvania to take on a pair of NEC teams in Robert Morris (Sept. 18) and Saint Francis (Sept. 20).
"When you travel for long distances and stay in a hotel with each other it brings a team closer together," said Koski. "It gives the guys a chance to get to know each other better and learn each other's personalities and characteristics. It'll be a good bonding experience heading into league play."
The Mountain Hawks will then return home to open up Patriot League play at the Ulrich Sports Complex on Sept. 26 against Holy Cross. Lehigh remains home on Sept. 29 to host Fordham, the 2014 Atlantic 10 champs and one of three NCAA Tournament teams that Lehigh will face, before welcoming Colgate on Oct. 3.
"It's always nice to play more games at home than on the road," said Koski. "It's an advantage for the guys to know their surroundings and sleep in their own beds. And of course, it always helps to have fans on our side as well."
Lehigh faces a tough two-game road stretch when the Mountain Hawks head to Navy (Oct. 7) and Army West Point (Oct. 11) to battle a pair of league teams that won double-digit games a season ago. The Mountain Hawks continue league play at home on Oct. 17 against Loyola before hosting 2014 CAA champion James Madison on Oct. 20 in the final non-league tilt of the season.
Following a trip to 2014 regular-season Patriot League champion Boston University on Oct. 24, Lehigh will square off against rival Lafayette at the Ulrich Sports Complex in a mid-week contest on Oct. 28. The Mountain Hawks then host 2014 Patriot League Tournament champion Bucknell on Halloween night. Lehigh closes out the regular season at American on Nov. 7.
The Patriot League Quarterfinals are set for Tuesday November 10. The top two seeds receive byes while the No. 3 seed hosts No. 6 and No. 4 hosts No. 5. The four teams still standing will play in the semifinals and finals at the top overall seed the weekend of November 13-15.
Lehigh looks to build upon the 2014 season that saw the Mountain Hawks go 10-8-1 overall and 5-3-1 in league play to earn the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Tournament. After finishing the 2013 season ranked 187th in the final NCAA men's soccer RPI, Lehigh the 2014 campaign ranked 78th for an outstanding jump of 109 spaces that ranked as the second-best RPI turnaround in Division I. The Mountain Hawks return several key starters, including 87.5 percent of Lehigh's goal scoring offense from last season.
