Ruffing named honorable mention CSCAA Scholar All-America

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – One day after Lehigh's swimming and diving teams earned Scholar All-America honors from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, Mountain Hawk sophomore Kailtyn Ruffing has been named an honorable mention selection to the CSCAA's individual Scholar All-America team.

Ruffing is a two-time first team All-Patriot League selection for the Mountain Hawks and has won two league individual titles in her first two years at Lehigh. As a freshman, Ruffing won the 100 yard freestyle title while in 2015 she captured Patriot League gold in the 50 free.

To be selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable Mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets. A biology major from Murrysville, Pa., Ruffing owns a 3.89 cumulative GPA and posted a 3.83 in the recently completed spring semester. Ruffing earned Academic All-Patriot League honors in 2015 and is a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

At the Patriot League Championships in February, Ruffing broke her own school record and met the NCAA "B" qualifying standard with a time of 22.91 seconds in the finals of the 50 yard freestyle. She also owns the school record in the 100 free and anchored four school record-setting relay teams at last year's league championship meet.

The CSCAA named 810 swimmers and divers to its All-America team, while an additional 1,078 were recognized as honorable mention selections.

Lehigh is one of 284 institutions to place at least one swimmer or diver on the first team or honorable mention lists.
