Lehigh welcomes ten in 2015 wrestling recruiting class

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head coach Pat Santoro has announced the addition of ten student-athletes in the Mountain Hawks' 2015 recruiting class. Four of the ten members of the incoming class combined to win a total of five state or National Prep titles. The incoming class includes six wrestlers from Pennsylvania, three from New Jersey and one from Michigan with every weight class projected to be covered by this group.
This incoming class has already received national acclaim as Lehigh's recruiting class was ranked 13th by InterMat earlier this month.
"We really feel this is a solid group," Santoro said. "They're great students and great wrestlers. This quietly became a really nice class for us. These are guys we've watched over the years. We really like the way they wrestle and how aggressive they were. To have them come together with the class we brought in last year is setting up for a strong future at Lehigh."
The highest-rated individual in the incoming class is Jordan Kutler from high school powerhouse Blair Academy in New Jersey. Kutler is a two-time National Prep champion and three-time National Prep place winner. He won the Beast of the East tournament in 2014 and was a two-time place winner in the event. Kutler also placed fifth and third the last two years at the Walsh Ironman. With a career record of 94-16, Kutler is ranked No. 21 overall by InterMat and No. 26 overall by FloWrestling, with both ranking services listing him as No. 3 at 152 lbs. He projects at 149 or 157 for the Mountain Hawks.
On Wednesday, Kutler was named third team ASICS high school All-America.
Kutler is the third Blair Academy product to join the Lehigh program in the last two years, joining Dylan Milonas and Patrick Coover from last year's class.
Cole Walter comes to Lehigh as a four-time state place winner from Mifflinburg High School in Pennsylvania. Walter capped his career with a 161-15 record, including a 41-1 senior season culminating in a state title at 160. A three-time regional champion and four-time district titlist, Walter also owns a pair of third place finishes at the PIAA Tournament and finished seventh in 2013. A freestyle and Greco-Roman state champion and a three-time Fargo All-American, Walter was also a two-time PowerAde finalist and finished fourth at the Super 32 tournament. He reached the finals at FloNationals earlier this spring. Walter projects at 157 or 165. He is ranked 45th overall and fifth at his weight class by FloWrestling and 71st overall by InterMat.
Walter was named a honorable mention ASICS High School All-American on Wednesday.
The third FloWrestling top 100 recruit in the class is Kent Lane from Southern Columbia Area High School in Pennsylvania. Lane won a PIAA AA state championship at 145 in 2015. He is ranked 96th overall and 15th at his weight class by FloWrestling. A three-time state medalist, Lane owns a 145-13 career record with 72 falls. A three-time regional and district champion, Lane finished sixth, second and first at the state tournament. Lane is a two-time Escape the Rock runner-up and a three-time FloNationals place winner who has also won state titles in freestyle and Greco-Roman. He fits in at 141 or 149 for the Mountain Hawks.
A three-time state place winner, Ryan Pomrinca joins the Mountain Hawks from North Hunterdon High School in New Jersey. North Hunterdon and Hunterdon/Warren counties' all-time wins leader, Pomrinca owns a 155-13 career mark that including a 79-3 mark over the last two seasons. A three-time tri-county champion, Pomrinca is a three-time district champion and a two-time region champion. Pomrinca owns two third-place finishes and a seventh place finish at the New Jersey state tournament. He is ranked No. 18 at 126 by InterMat and projects at 133 for Lehigh.
The fourth state champion in the incoming class is Christian Colucci, the New Jersey state champion at 220 from St. Peter's Prep. Colucci is ranked tenth at 220 by InterMat and 14th at the weight class by FloWrestling. He is a three-time region and district champion who finished third at the Super 32 and fourth at Beast of the East. Colucci was 31-3 as a senior and 112-25 for his career. The Hudson County Wrestler and Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Colucci is a two-time state champion in both freestyle and Greco-Roman. He can fit in at either 197 or heavyweight.
Chase Gallik compiled a 137-28 career mark for Wallenpaupack High School in the Poconos. A four-time league champion, Gallik is a four-time district place winner, with a title in his senior season and a three-time regional medalist. Gallik collected 87 falls in his career and reached the state semifinals as a senior on his way to a sixth place finish. The top-ranked student in his graduating class, Gallik projects at 149 or 157.
From Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, David Pipa owns a 116-27 career record that includes a 34-5 mark in his senior season. A sectional and district champion as a senior, Pipa finished third in the state and represented Pennsylvania at the Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic. A two-time state qualifier, Pipa is a Patriot-News Big 15 All-Star selection and is Bishop McDevitt's career wins leader. Pipa ranks fourth in his class academically and will provide depth at 125 and 133.
The lone member of the incoming class not from Pennsylvania or New Jersey is Andrew Price, a projected 174/184 pounder from Stoney Creek High School in Rochester, Michigan. Price is a four-time state qualifier who finished fourth as a junior and second as a senior. A two-time regional champion and three-time county champion, Price sports a 192-31 career record and holds school records for single season wins (54), career wins (192) and team points in a season (277).
Paul Dunn comes to Lehigh from Bethel Park in western Pennsylvania. The owner of a 133-44 career record, Dunn finished third at the PIAA Championships in each of his final two seasons. He won a pair of sectional titles and finished third and second at regionals in each of the last two years. Dunn placed fifth at the PowerAde Tournament last winter and represented the WPIAL at the Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic, winning his match against an all-star team from Illinois. He projects at 165 for the Mountain Hawks.
Rounding out the incoming class is the lone Lehigh Valley product, Charlie Sell from Bangor Area High School. A four-time District XI place winner, Sell went 121-24 for his career. He won a district title as a junior and a runner-up at regionals. A two-time first team All-Colonial League selection, Sell also lettered in cross country and track and field, and is a two-time state qualifier in cross country. Sell projects at 165/174 for the brown and white.
"We haven't had a ton of depth over the years. We've had depth at a few weight classes but now I think we'll deep and competitive at just about every weight class."
Lehigh loses just two starters to graduation from a team that finished 13th at the NCAA Championships with three All-Americans including a finalist. The Mountain Hawks return a core that includes four All-Americans, three EIWA Champions and 11 wrestlers who have previously qualified for the NCAA Championships.
