BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team made their final home match of the season a memorable one, defeating Bucknell for the first time since 2006, 4-3 Tuesday on the Ulrich Varsity Courts. The Mountain Hawks swept the doubles matches, winning two of the three matches in tiebreaks and then captured three of the first four singles matches to snap an 11 match losing streak against the Bison.

With the win Lehigh moves to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in the Patriot League.

"My hat goes off to Bucknell for beating us so often over the last nine years," Lehigh head coach Wouter Hendrix said. "This is a huge win for us. We beat a really good program today. I'm so proud of our women. We knew it was going to be close and clinching doubles was huge for us. For Abby (Farrell) to go out like this was special because she had never beaten Bucknell."

Doubles play began with the Mountain Hawks' No. 3 team of freshmen Kirstin Godau and Abby Duddy winning 8-1 over Madeline Melch and Melissa Parks.

The other two doubles matches went to tiebreaks. Senior Abby Farrell teamed with sophomore Cassidy Cruz to defeat Michele Urbinati and Lisa Jouravleva 7-4 in the tiebreak to win 8-7 at the No. 2 flight to clinch the doubles point.

Lehigh's top team of freshman Christina Auyeung and sophomore Jamie Campisi won their tiebreak by the same 7-4 score to defeat Maria Cioffi and Alyssa McAndrew 8-7.

In singles play, Farrell made the most of her final career home match giving Lehigh a 2-0 lead with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Parks at No. 6 singles. Godau extended Lehigh's lead to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jorie Fox at the No. 5 flight.

Bucknell scored its first point at the top flight as Cioffi defeated Auyeung in straight sets, before freshman Briana Maravich clinched the match for the Mountain Hawks with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Melch at No. 4 singles.

The Bison closed the match with straight set wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights. Bucknell falls to 6-12 overall and 2-3 in the league.

"Breezy Maravich clinched at No. 4 as a freshman, which was huge, to be that mentally tough," Hendrix said. "We're deep. We can win at every spot. We want that three seed really bad so tomorrow is a really big match for us against a tough Loyola team that beat Bucknell 5-2."

Prior to Tuesday, Lehigh's last win over Bucknell was on April 13, 2006 by a 4-3 score.

The Mountain Hawks will play their final three regular season matches on the road, beginning Wednesday when they visit Loyola for a 3 p.m. match.
