Strong effort comes up short in 4-1 loss to defending league champions Boston U.

WEST POINT, N.Y. – In the first of a stretch of four matches in six days, the Lehigh women's tennis team put up a strong effort against the defending Patriot League champions, but ultimately fell 4-1 to Boston University Friday morning inside Army's Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The Terriers won the doubles point convincingly, but Lehigh battled in singles play as four of the six matches went to three sets.
Freshman Kirstin Godau won a three-set match at No. 5 singles for Lehigh's lone point as the Mountain Hawks fall to 7-7 overall and 0-2 in the Patriot League. Boston University improves to 9-7 overall and 2-0 in the league.
In doubles play the Terriers lost just three combined games at the bottom two flights in racing out to a 1-0 lead. Boston University started singles play strong as well as Terrier ace Johanna Hyoty defeated freshman Christina Auyeung in straight sets at the top flight and Lauren Davis won 6-1, 6-2 over sophomore Cassidy Cruz at No. 2 singles.
The remaining four singles matches were all tightly contested. Godau defeated Madison Craft 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 at No. 5 singles, but BU clinched the match as Iryna Kostirko rallied from a set down to defeat sophomore Jamie Campisi in three sets at the No. 3 flight.
The matches at No. 4 singles, featuring freshman Briana Maravich against Barbara Rodriguez, and No. 6 singles, matching senior Abby Farrell and Kim McCallum were not finished but both matches were deep into the third and deciding sets.
The Mountain Hawks will be back on the courts on Saturday when they square off against Colgate at 10 a.m. from the Turning Stone Sportsplex in Verona, N.Y.
