Mountain Hawks fall 7-0 to Stetson in opening match of spring break trip

DELAND, Fla. – Sophomore Jamie Campisi and freshman Christina Auyeung teamed for a win at No. 1 doubles but it wasn't enough as the Lehigh women's tennis team dropped its spring break opener 7-0 to a strong Stetson squad Monday evening at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
The Hatters won two doubles matches and swept the singles matches to improve to 9-1 on the season while Lehigh, playing its first match in 15 days and playing outdoors for the first time this season, falls to 3-4.
Doubles play opened with Stetson's Arijana Korac and Maja Salibasic defeating Lehigh sophomore Cassidy Cruz freshman Kirstin Godau 8-3 at the No. 3 flight. Auyeung and Campisi evened things up with an 8-5 win over Alizee Michaud and Ashley Dean but the Hatters took the doubles point at the No. 2 flight as Isabella Fernandez and Eveline Lepinay defeated sophomore Jessica Graham and freshman Briana Maravich.
Stetson won all six singles matches with five of the six wins coming in straight sets. The Hatters clinched the match at No. 6 singles as Carolina Meregalli won 6-1, 6-2 over senior Abby Farrell.
Cruz had the most successful singles run for the Mountain Hawks, winning the first set against Fernandez at the No. 2 flight but Fernandez took the second 6-2 and won a ten point tiebreak 10-4 to take the match and complete the singles sweep.
Lehigh will play two matches on Tuesday as the Mountain Hawks will face Quinnipiac at 12:30 p.m. in Winter Park, Fla. and St. Cloud State at 7 p.m. in Orlando.
