Nine Mountain Hawks earn seeds as brackets for 111th EIWA Championships announced

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Seeds and brackets for the 111th EIWA Championships at Lehigh's Stabler Arena were unveiled Thursday evening following a meeting of the conference's head coaches. Nine of Lehigh's ten EIWA Tournament entrants earned seeds, led by junior Mason Beckman, who earned the top seed at 133.

Beckman, the defending EIWA Champion and a returning All-American, will open with Binghamton's Joe Nelson Friday morning.

Two other Mountain Hawks, sophomore Mitch Minotti (157) and junior Nathaniel Brown (184) earned No. 2 seeds, while four others earned No. 3 seeds.

Minotti will open with Rob King of Franklin & Marshall, who Minotti pinned in their January 24 dual meet at Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. First up for Brown is Alex DiCiantis of Drexel.

The quartet of No. 3 seeds for Lehigh includes sophomore Randy Cruz (141), senior Santiago Martinez (174), sophomore Elliot Riddick (197), and sophomore Doug Vollaro (285).

Cruz drew Anthony Finocchiaro of Brown in the opening round, a wrestler he defeated 4-0 on February 8.

Martinez is paired with Stephen Loiseau of Drexel, while Riddick will face Gus Marker of Brown. Marker bumped up to heavyweight when the teams met on February 8.
Vollaro's first round opponent is Charles McDermand of American.

Freshman Scott Parker will be the first Mountain Hawk on the mats as the No. 4 seed at 125 will open with Penn's Jeremy Schwartz, a wrestler he beat by technical fall on December 6.

Lehigh's lowest seed is senior Marshall Peppelman, who earned the No. 6 seed at 165. Peppelman will open with Rob Schlitt of Bucknell.

The only unseeded Mountain Hawk is freshman Drew Longo, who drew the tournament's top seed, Chris Villalonga of Cornell at 149. Villalonga owns two wins over Longo, including a win by major decision at the NWCA National Duals in Iowa.

The 111th EIWA Championships get underway Friday at 10 a.m. from Stabler Arena with the first round and quarterfinals plus two rounds of consolations. Session two, featuring the semifinals, third round consolations, consolation semifinals and seventh place matches is set for Saturday at 10 a.m., while Saturday's finals session featuring matches for first, third and fifth place, will begin at 5 p.m. with the EIWA Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Streaming video for the entire championship will be provided via Flowrestling via their subscription-based Flo Pro platform. Saturday's finals can be heard on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 as well as ESPNLV.com beginning at 5:15 p.m.Â
