Mountain Hawks head to Holy Cross Friday for Patriot League Quarterfinals

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The sixth-seeded Lehigh women's basketball team begins its quest for a Patriot League Championship Friday night at No. 3 Holy Cross. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. and free video will be available on the Patriot League Network with audio coverage on ESPN Radio of the Lehigh Valley 123- and 1320 AM. The Mountain Hawks swept the regular-season series from the Crusaders.

Lehigh will be looking to advance to the Patriot League Semifinals for the first time since the 2011-12 season. The Mountain Hawks finished the regular season with a 9-9 league record and 17-11 overall mark. Lehigh dropped its final four games of the regular season. The Mountain Hawks are 1-8 all-time against the Crusaders in the Patriot League Tournament and 2-6 when playing tournament games in Worcester, Mass.

Lehigh wrapped up the regular season with the top scoring offense in the Patriot League, averaging 68.9 points per game. Sophomore Lexi Martins leads the squad with 14.3 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. Martins and senior Katie O'Reilly, who averages 11.6 points per game, earned second team All-League laurels, while junior Kerry Kinek (11.2 points, 7.5 rebounds per game) was named third team All-League. Freshman Quinci Mann (7.8 ppg) landed on the Patriot League All-Rookie squad.

In a game that saw four lead changes and ten ties, Lehigh came out on the short end of a back-and-forth battle with Colgate, 61-60, Saturday evening in the Mountain Hawks' most recent action. Colgate's Randyll Butler tossed in a game-winning layup with six seconds to play to secure a 61-60 win for the Raiders. Senior Sarah Williams led Lehigh offensively with a career high-tying 16 points. The Mountain Hawks finished the game shooting 35.5 percent (22-for-62) from the field and 23.1 percent (3-for-13) from three-point range.

Holy Cross finished the regular season on a four-game win streak to secure the No. 3 seed in the Patriot League Tournament. Holy Cross went 7-2 in the second half of league play compared to its 4-5 mark in the first half to finish with a mark of 11-7 in Patriot League games and a 15-16 overall record.

The Crusaders outlasted Boston University 76-62 in their most recent game last Saturday in Worcester, Mass. With the score knotted at 20-20 at the 10:27-mark of the first half, Holy Cross embarked on a 10-0 surge to gain the 30-20 lead (7:12). Boston University would get no closer than eight points for the remainder of the contest. Emily Parker led the way for Holy Cross with 18 points, while Katie Doherty (14) and Lisa Mifsud (13) rounded out the trio of double-figure scoring Crusaders.

Raquel Scott, a first team All-League selection, leads the team with averages of 16.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Mifsud earned third team All-League honors after finishing the regular season with 12.5 points per game, while Doherty (6.6 ppg) earned a spot on the All-Rookie squad.
