
Lehigh suffers 5-2 setback to unbeaten Drexel

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team ran into a formidable opponent Saturday as the Drexel Dragons remained unbeaten on the season with a 5-2 win over the Mountain Hawks at the Lewis Tennis Center. The Dragons rolled through the doubles point with ease and added four singles wins to improve to 4-0 on the spring, while dropping Lehigh to 1-2.
Freshman Christina Auyeung made her varsity debut with a win at No. 1 singles, while classmate Briana Maravich accounted for Lehigh's other point with a win at No. 4 singles.
Drexel took the doubles point winning all three matches while dropping just three games.
In singles play Erin Bowsher's straight set win over sophomore Cassidy Cruz extended Drexel's lead to 2-0 before Maravich got Lehigh on the board with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ryshena Providence. At No. 3 singles, Clary Rodriquez-Cruz dealt sophomore Jamie Campisi her first singles loss of the season, 6-3, 7-5 before Auyeung dispatched Nicole Pivonka 7-5, 6-2 to bring the Mountain Hawks within 3-2 with two matches remaining.
The Dragons clinched the match at No. 5 singles as Lea Winkler won 6-1, 6-3 over senior Abby Farrell and also got a win from Kendra Bunch over Kirstin Godau at the No. 6 flight.
The Mountain Hawks will look to get back on track on Sunday when they host Saint Francis (Pa.) at 2 p.m. inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
