Big Ten Network Release
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's lacrosse game at Rutgers on Mar. 31 will air nationally on the Big Ten Network, as recently announced. In total, the network will air at least 25 men's and women's games, including the Mountain Hawks at Scarlett Knights showdown. This marks the first season of Big Ten Lacrosse.
The game continues a string of multiple Lehigh games on national television over the last few seasons. Last year, the Mountain Hawks put forth a strong effort at #20 Navy on CBS Sports Network, dropping a slim 9-8 overtime final in an extremely close contest. The game was tied 5-5 at the half and 8-8 after regulation. Lehigh was also on CBS Sports Network in 2011 as the Mountain Hawks earned an impressive 15-13 victory at Navy.
Rutgers is 1-1 on the season, defeating Villanova and falling to Fairfield. The Scarlett Knights finished 9-9 last year, their final season in the Big East.
Lehigh is 2-1 so far this season following a weekend sweep of UC Davis and Niagara. Senior Carli Sukonik scored seven goals last weekend to lead the offense, exceeding 100 for her career in the process. For her efforts, she was recognized on Monday with Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week laurels. Meanwhile, Lehigh's defense allowed just nine goals and 26 shots over the two games.
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Saturday at home against Fairfield. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m. from the Ulrich Sports Complex.
