BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After a solid effort in its season opener last weekend, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team heads home to host UC Davis on Friday (2:30 p.m.) and Niagara on Sunday (1 p.m.). Coming off a 15-7 loss at #10 Penn State, the Mountain Hawks look to rebound by winning their home opener for a fourth straight year.

Lehigh jumped out to a 2-1 lead just under 10 minutes into last Saturday's game behind goals from freshman Kierstyn Voiro and senior Carli Sukonik. Penn State came back with four straight tallies, but sophomore Krista Dampman pulled the Mountain Hawks within 5-3. The Nittany Lions responded to take a 13-4 second-half lead, but Lehigh wouldn't back down as sophomore Allison LaBeau sparked a 3-0 run late midway through the second half and the defense held Penn State scoreless for a stretch of 15:49.

LaBeau finished the game with three goals and one assist, having a hand in more than half of Lehigh's goals on the afternoon. Junior Kendall Garden filled up the stat sheet with a goal, assist, groundball, three caused turnovers and two draw controls. Senior defender Michelle Abramczyk had two groundballs and a caused turnover while marking Penn State's leading returning scorer, and former All-American, Maggie McCormick, who scored just one goal on the afternoon. That goal was scored off an interception of a clearing attempt in an unsettled situation with Abramczyk not covering her.

Saturday marks the season opener for both UC Davis, who's coming off an 8-8 season. The team's leading scorer in 2014, Elizabeth Landry, returns after tallying 66 points (48 goals, 18 assists) last season. Five other players who had double-figure points return, including Melissa Kellan with 26 points (22 goals, four assists), Ellie Delich with 25 (17 goals, eight assists) and Meghan Jordan with 25 as well (eight goals, 17 assists). Mary Doyle led the team in groundballs (38) and caused turnovers (23) last season while also adding 44 draw controls (second on the team). Kai Murphy started 11 of the team's 16 games in goal, with a 9.68 GAA and .448 save percentage.

Lehigh leads the all-time series with UC Davis, 2-1 which includes wins in 2007 and 2010. The teams first met in 2004, a 15-4 UC Davis victory. In the last meeting, the Mountain Hawks jumped out to a 7-1 lead on their way to an 11-9 victory which matched the best start in program history at 8-0.

Also the season opener for Niagara, the Purple Eagles were 7-9 in 2014. Carrie-Jo Farrugia led the team in scoring with 51 points behind 36 goals and 15 assists. Erin Patenaude and Maria Battista also return after tallying 34 (22 goals, 12 assists) and 31 (28 goals, three assists) points, respectively. Kara Martin led the team with 30 groundballs while she also tallied 12 caused turnovers, which was second on the team and first among 2015 returnees. Andrea Francisco returns after seeing the majority of action in 2014 when she posted a 13.77 GAA and .361 save percentage.

Sunday will mark the first-ever meeting between Lehigh and Niagara.

After this weekend, Lehigh will return home next Saturday (Feb. 28) to host Fairfield at 1 p.m.
