Mountain Hawks suffer 6-1 setback to unbeaten Stony Brook

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the third straight weekend the Lehigh women's tennis team had to settle for a split. One day after downing Fairleigh Dickinson 5-2, the Mountain Hawks ran into a tough Stony Brook squad, with the Seawolves capturing a 6-1 win Sunday at the Lewis Tennis Center.

Sophomore Cassidy Cruz earned Lehigh's lone point with a win at No. 3 singles for the Mountain Hawks, who now stand at 3-3 on the season. Stony Brook runs its record to a perfect 4-0.

The Seawolves swept the three doubles matches, dropping just six games in the process. Stony Brook then extended its lead to 3-0 as Louise Badoche downed freshman Briana Maravich in straight sets at No. 4 singles, and Polina Movchan beat sophomore Jamie Campisi at No.2.

Cruz put Lehigh on the board with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Elizabeth Tsvetkov at No. 3 singles after winning the second set tiebreak 7-5. Stony Brook clinched the match at the top flight as Kristina Vozniak rallied from a set down to hand freshman Christina Auyeung her first singles loss in three sets. The Seawolves also captured the matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles in straight sets.

The Mountain Hawks will look to bounce back next weekend when they host Mount St. Mary's Sunday at 10 a.m. inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
