BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's soccer head coach Dean Koski has announced that Matt Deming will be promoted to the Assistant Coach position vacated by Mike Montross, who recently accepted a position at Villanova.
"While we are disappointed to lose such a terrific young coach and recruiter, Mike has been a great addition to our staff the past two years as was influential in the success of our team last fall," said Koski. "He leaves the program in better shape than when he started and to have the opportunity to join the Villanova staff as a full time assistant is a great next step for Mike professionally. We wish him all the best in the next phase of his career.
"Matt joined our staff last winter as our volunteer coach with the primary responsibility of being our Goalkeeper coach," continued Koski. "During the past year he has assumed more responsibilities with our camps and ID Clinics as well as administrative work in the office. His dedication to our program made this an easy decision to promote Matt to our second assistant position where he will now assume an additional responsibility of recruiting."
Deming served as a Volunteer Assistant Coach during the 2014 campaign and helped lead the Mountain Hawks to a 10-8-1 overall mark and 5-3-1 league record as Lehigh secured its first ten-win season since 2006. The Mountain Hawks were predicted to finish tenth in the league, but Lehigh earned the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Tournament and fell to eventual champion Bucknell. After finishing the 2013 season ranked 187th in the final NCAA men's soccer RPI, Lehigh concluded action this season ranked 78th for an outstanding jump of 109 spaces.
Prior to joining the Lehigh coaching staff, Deming was a graduate assistant coach at Lock Haven University from 2011-2013. Deming assisted with all facets of the program and helped guide the Bald Eagles to a regular-season league championship in 2011. He was also a coach for the Arsenal Soccer Club in Pittsburgh from 2008-11 following a one-year stint as a student assistant coach at Lock Haven in 2008.
Deming played collegiate soccer at Lock Haven from 2003 to 2007. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management with a concentration in fitness management in 2008 before earning a Master's in Sports Administration in 2011.
