BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer team took time to look back on the 2015 season and hand out team awards on Nov. 29 at the Mountain Hawks' annual banquet. The 2015 season saw Lehigh capture its second-ever Patriot League title and make its fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Senior Jamie Luchini earned the team's Outstanding Athlete award, which is presented to the student-athlete who makes the most outstanding contribution to the athletic success of the team. Luchini earned Patriot League Tournament MVP honors after securing eight points behind three goals and two assists in Lehigh's three PLT games to help lead the Mountain Hawks to the league championship. He finished his senior season with a league-best 29 points behind ten goals and nine assists and was named second team All-Patriot League at the conclusion of the regular season. Luchini was also recently named a CoSIDA Academic All-American and landed on the Academic All-Patriot League team for the third-straight year.
Junior Gianfranco Giammatteo took home both the Scholar-Athlete and Coaches awards. The Scholar-Athlete award is presented to a player who exemplifies academic success along with strong play on the field. Giammatteo holds a strong 3.57 GPA as a Civil Engineering major. The Coaches Award is presented to the student-athlete who made noteworthy contributions to the team in areas of attitude, improvement and leadership.
The Mountain Hawks finished the season 13-6-3 overall, marking one of four times in program history that Lehigh has secured 13 or more wins in a season. Lehigh finished league play 4-3-2 to earn the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Tournament. Lehigh took down No. 5 Bucknell in the quarterfinals before beating top-seeded Colgate in the semis and No. 3 American in the championship. The Mountain Hawks fell at Hofstra in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Lehigh sat atop the Northeast regional rankings in the final regular season NSCAA poll.
