BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh sophomore Harley Abrams has been named to the Academic All-Patriot League men's golf team, it was announced Friday. Abrams, a two-time All-Patriot League performer, was one of five student-athletes voted to the team, which honors those who best successfully combine golf and academics.
To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
Abrams has held down the No. 1 spot in the Mountain Hawks' lineup. He was the top finisher in four of Lehigh's tournaments throughout the 2013-14 season. Abrams tied for eighth at the Patriot League Championship at Army, finishing at 221 after an opening round 69. That first round score matched his career-low score. Abrams finished his sophomore season with a stroke average of 74 over 22 rounds.
Last year, the Boca Raton, Fla. native tied for fourth at the Patriot League Championship to garner first team All-League honors.
Off the course, Abrams holds a 3.40 cumulative GPA as a political science major. He was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll following the 2013 season and has twice received the Lehigh Faculty Athletics Council Academic Award for semester GPAs of 3.2 or above.
Navy senior was voted the league's Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the league's sports information directors. He and Abrams were joined on the Academic All-League team by Loyola's Jimmy Dengler, Lafayette's Robert Dyer, and Bucknell's Schuyler Stitzer.
