
Four Mountain Hawks named All-East at ECAC/IC4A Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Lehigh track and field teams wrapped up a successful outdoor season with impressive finishes at the three-day ECAC/IC4A Championships Sunday at Princeton. Four Mountain Hawk women placed within the top eight of their respective events to earn All-East distinction.
"This was one of the best years we've ever had," said head coach Matt Utesch. "Between all of the Patriot League champions, All-East athletes, major awards and Lehigh awards, I'm incredibly proud of all that we've accomplished. I am satisfied with our year, but know we have more work to do and I look forward to the challenges of next year and everything that these kids will bring to the table."
Sophomore Elizabeth Weiler started Lehigh off on the right foot Friday as she finished second in the 10,000 meter race with a new personal best time of 35:19.90 to be named All-East.
Senior Brooke Astor finished the heptathlon with 5,175 points to claim third place and be named All-East. A first-place finish in the 100 meter hurdles highlighted the event for Astor as she crossed the line in 14.42 seconds.
Freshman Courtney Avery wrapped up her impressive rookie campaign with a 1.72m high jump as she finished tied for seventh place and was named All-East. Senior Jimil Ataman also earned All-East distinction in the hammer throw with a toss of 55.01m that was good for eighth place.
Senior Katie Baglio finished 29th in the discus throw with a launch of 35.88m, while sophomore Gabrielle Wardle also placed 29th in the javelin throw with a toss of 36.26m.
Junior Ryan Mahalsky finished 17th in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:36.39. Senior Ryan Knouse finished the 10,000 meter run in 31:44.72 to place 19th.
The 4x100 meter relay team of freshman Christopher Del Rossi, senior Martin Otieno and juniors Julian Copeland and Justin Mahoney finished 19th in the preliminaries with a time of 42.04. Copeland also competed in the long jump and finished 20th with a mark of 6.66m. Otieno finished 31st in the 200 meter dash prelims with a clip of 22.03.
Junior Benjamin Beauchamp took 18th in the discus throw with a launch of 47.24m. Freshman Lucas Warning finished 31st in the shot put with a throw of 14.72m.
Next up, those Mountain Hawks that have qualified will head to the NCAA East Regional Championships May 29-31 in Jacksonville, Fla.
