Lehigh enjoys first time outside in 7-0 win over Monmouth

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team took full advantage of its first outdoor match of the season as the Mountain Hawks posted a dominant 7-0 shutout of Monmouth Thursday on the Ulrich Varsity Courts. On a day in which every player on the roster saw action, including exhibitions in doubles and singles, the Mountain Hawks swept through the doubles matches and won all six singles matches in straight sets to improve to 5-8 on the season.
Doubles play began with Lehigh winning all three matches, yielding just six games in the process. Freshman Cassidy Cruz enjoyed an especially dominant day, teaming with senior Taylor Hampshire to blank Ashley Sandler and Chioma Gabriel 8-0 at No. 2 doubles before winning 6-0, 6-0 over Farrah Smoke at No. 3 singles.
Lehigh clinched the doubles point at the No. 3 flight as freshmen Jamie Campisi and Jessica Graham won 8-4 over Kendal Kauffman and Emily Ellis. The Mountain Hawks also won the match at No. 1 doubles with senior Jenai Bilimoria teaming with junior Abby Farrell to defeat Brooke Verdiglione and and Smoke 8-2.
Cruz's win over Smoke at third singles put Lehigh up 2-0 and was followed up by a 6-2, 6-0 win by Farrell over Sandler at the No. 2 flight.
Graham delivered the clinching point with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kauffman at No. 4 singles.
Lehigh also claimed the remaining three matches in straight sets with Bilimoria dropping just three games to Verdiglione at No. 1 singles, sophomore Ali Kaminetsky blanking Robyn Belen at No. 6 and Campisi winning 6-1, 6-3 over Gabriel at the No. 5 flight.
The Mountain Hawks will travel to Bucknell for a make-up match Monday at 3 p.m. before returning home to face rival Lafayette on Tuesday.
