The Rivalry: Lehigh vs. Lafayette

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team lost its senior leader and top player early in Tuesday's rivalry match with Lafayette, but the rest of the Mountain Hawks stepped up to post a 6-1 win over the Leopards inside the Lewis Tennis Center. Senior Jenai Bilimoria went down with an injury in doubles play forcing Lehigh to default the top flight but the Mountain Hawks won the remaining two doubles matches and the first five singles matches to secure their first Patriot League win of the season.

With the victory Lehigh improves to 6-8 on the season and 1-1 in the Patriot League. The Mountain Hawks have now won 13 straight matches against Lafayette.

At No. 3 doubles freshmen Jamie Campisi and Jessica Graham posted an 8-1 win over Gabby Montes and Liza Blank. Lehigh clinched the doubles point at the No. 2 flight as senior Taylor Hampshire and freshman Cassidy Cruz downed Rocine Moschella and Tori Almeida 8-3.

Singles play began with sophomore Ali Kaminetsky dominating Amanda Kusnierz 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 6 flight. With Bilimoria out of the lineup, head coach Dave Shook bumped up his remaining five players. Junior Abby Farrell stepped up to the No. 1 flight and posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Caroline Nixon to put Lehigh up 3-0.

Campisi delivered the clinching point, rallying from a set down to defeat Catherine Senopoulos 4-6, 6-1, 6-0.

Lehigh went on to capture two more singles wins, with Cruz defeating Moschella in straight sets at the No. 2 flight and Graham outlasting Jordyn Spellberg at No. 3 singles.

Lafayette's lone win came at No. 5 singles where Almeida prevailed in a third set ten point tiebreak against senior Jill Sloand.
