Mountain Hawks fall 6-1 to Navy Thursday in Annapolis

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – After opening its season with 14 straight home matches, the Lehigh women's tennis team took to the road for the first time in 2014 but the Mountain Hawks fell 6-1 to Navy on a windy Thursday at the Brigade Sports Complex. Freshman Jamie Campisi earned Lehigh's only point with a win at No. 4 singles and also posted a win at No. 2 doubles with classmate Jessica Graham.
The loss drops Lehigh to 6-9 overall and 1-2 in the Patriot League for the season. Navy improves to 19-7 overall and 4-2 in league matches.
The Mids opened the match by winning two of three doubles matches. Navy posted wins by identical 8-3 scores at the first and third flights. Campisi and Graham posted an 8-6 win over Darien Sears and Sam Droop at the No. 2 flight.
With senior captain Jenai Bilimoria sidelined due to injury, senior Taylor Hampshire and freshman Cassidy Cruz moved up to the No. 1 doubles flight, while junior Abby Farrell moved down to No. 3 where she played alongside sophomore Alexandra Kaminetsky.
Farrell moved up to the No. 1 singles spot but fell 6-4, 6-2 to Erin Snook.
Campisi downed Gabby Winter 7-6, 6-4 at No. 4 singles to account for Lehigh's only point. The Mids captured the remaining four matches in straight sets. Cruz suffered her first singles loss of the year at the No. 2 flight as she had won her first four matches playing up at that flight. Graham manned third singles for the second straight match while Kaminetsky moved up to No. 5. Sophomore Marian Prim made her season singles debut in a losing effort at the No. 6 flight.
The Mountain Hawks will return home to host Colgate Saturday in their final home match of the season. First serves are set for 11 a.m. from the Ulrich Varsity Courts, with seniors Bilimoria, Hampshire and Jill Sloand being recognized prior to their final home match.
