Lehigh edges Colgate 4-3 in home finale

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In a tight match that came down to the top singles flight the Lehigh women's tennis team edged Colgate 4-3 Saturday on senior day at the Ulrich Varsity Courts. The Mountain Hawks and Raiders split six singles matches with junior Abby Farrell winning the clincher at the top flight. Lehigh also won two of three doubles matches to capture the doubles point.
The win improves Lehigh's record to 7-9 overall and 2-2 in the Patriot League. Colgate falls to 5-12 overall and 0-4 in the league.
Lehigh captured the doubles point with wins at the top two flights, which offset a loss at the third flight. The Mountain Hawks' top team of senior Taylor Hampshire and freshman Cassidy Cruz won 8-5 over Kelsey Shea and Alex Petrini while freshmen Jess Graham and Jamie Campisi won by the same score over Jennifer Ho and Hannah Fleckenstein.
The Raiders answered with wins at the bottom two singles flights, while two of Lehigh's three freshmen posted key singles wins. At the No. 2 flight, Cruz won 6-2, 6-2 over Ho, while at the No. 4 flight, Campisi downed Kaelin Brittin 6-3, 6-0 to improve to 4-0 in Patriot League singles matches.
The match came down to the top flight, where Farrell's 7-5, 6-3 win over Shea gave Lehigh a win in its final home match.
The Mountain Hawks are scheduled to play matches at Bucknell on Monday and at Saint Joseph's on Tuesday before next weekend's Patriot League Tournament in Lewisburg, Pa.
