Mountain Hawks' season ends in 4-0 quarterfinal loss at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. – A season of improvement for the Lehigh women's tennis team came to an end Friday in the quarterfinals of the Patriot League Tournament as the No. 5 seed Mountain Hawks fell 4-0 to No. 4 Bucknell at the Bison's Varsity Tennis Courts. Bucknell claimed the doubles point with wins at the first and third flights and then won three singles matches to earn a semifinal date with No. 1 seed Boston University.
Lehigh's season ends at 7-10. The Mountain Hawks' seven wins are the most since they went 11-10 in 2008.
Doubles play saw the Bison win matches at the No. 1 and No. 3 flights by identical 8-2 scores. At the top flight Elena Vidrascu and Maria Cioffi defeated senior Taylor Hampshire and freshman Cassidy Cruz. Stephanie Pino and Michele Urbinati clinched the first point with an 8-2 win over junior Abby Farrell and sophomore Ali Kaminetsky. The match at No. 2 doubles between Lydia Colvin and Alyssa McAndrew of Bucknell and Lehigh freshmen Jessica Graham and Jamie Campisi was tied 6-6 when the doubles point was clinched.
Bucknell extended its lead and eventually clinched the match with three straight set singles wins. Hampshire made her season singles debut at the No. 5 flight but fell 6-0, 6-2 to Pino. At No. 2 singles Cioffi defeated Cruz 6-1, 6-1. The Bison clinched the match at No. 3 singles as Colvin won 6-3, 6-2 over Graham.
Farrell was up 1-0 in the second set on Vidrascu after dropping the first set at the top flight when play ended, while Bucknell players were also up a set at the No. 4 and No. 6 flights.
The Mountain Hawks will lose three seniors to graduation in Hampshire, injured captain Jenai Bilimoria and Jill Sloand.
