Lehigh hosts Bucknell in Patriot League opener Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a pair of road games, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team returns home for its Patriot League opener against Bucknell on Saturday. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m. The Mountain Hawks are eying their first win in a league opener since the 2010 season.
Lehigh jumped out to a 4-1 halftime lead at Fairfield Tuesday, but the Stags came back to down the Mountain Hawks 7-5. Junior Carli Sukonik and freshman Allison LaBeau scored two goals apiece while junior Kelly Scott finished with two caused turnovers.
The Mountain Hawks have received strong contributions from their freshmen as Krista Dampman was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Tuesday following four goals at New Hampshire last Saturday. Freshman Julianne D'Orazio has started all four games and owns nine groundballs and eight caused turnovers. LaBeau is third on the team in scoring with eight points while Dampman is fourth with five points.
Sophomore Kendall Garden has enjoyed a strong start to the season, earning Midfield Player of the Week. She leads the team with 11 groundballs and 12 caused turnovers. Junior Michelle Abramczyk leads the way with six draw controls.
Bucknell is 0-4 on the season, all four losses coming to quality opponents. The Bison have fallen to Stony Brook, Penn State, Johns Hopkins and Villanova. Katelyn Miller leads the team with eight points (four goals, four assists), 12 groundballs and 10 caused turnovers. Emily Kookogey has a team-leading seven goals while Sophie Kleinert owns a team-leading 13 draw controls. Elizabeth Duswalt has started all four games and has posted a 16.75 GAA and 37.5 save percentage.
Lehigh owns a 25-12 advantage in the all-time series which includes four straight wins. The Mountain Hawks pulled out a 14-8 win last year led by six goals from Sukonik. Bucknell's last win was in 2009 by a 12-11 final. The first-ever meeting between the two sides came in 1976, an 11-10 Lehigh win in overtime.
Following Saturday's game, the Mountain Hawks remain home to host Bryant on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
