Mountain Hawks head to Yale for final nonleague game on Sunday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -The Lehigh women's lacrosse team will look for its second straight when it heads to Yale on Sunday for a 1 p.m. opening draw. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a 9-7 win over California on Wednesday to improve to 5-5 overall. Sunday marks the final nonleague game as Lehigh closes the regular season with four Patriot League contests.
 
Five minutes into the second half on Wednesday, Lehigh was trailing 6-2, but rallied to outscore visiting California 7-1 over the final 25 minutes to capture the comeback victory.
 
Junior standout Carli Sukonik led Lehigh's offense with four goals. Sophomore Kendall Garden and freshman Allison LaBeau also had strong performances, finishing with two goals each. Garden filled up the stat sheet, also adding two assists, four groundballs, two draw controls and career-high five caused turnovers. Senior goalie Alexandra Fitzpatrick was strong between the pipes, finishing with 10 saves.
 
Yale is 6-3 on the season, coming off a dominant 17-6 win on Friday over the same Cal team the Mountain Hawks beat Wednesday. The Bulldogs had previously dropped three straight tight games, against Penn (11-9), Harvard (11-8) and Boston University (6-5). Yale is averaging 11.56 goals per game. The Bulldogs won five straight wins to open the season against Holy Cross, Sacred Heart, Dartmouth, Bryant and Quinnipiac.
 
Yale's offense is led by Jen DeVito with 37 points behind 14 goals and 23 assists. Nicole Daniggelis has a team-leading 23 goals to go with nine assists for 32 points. Kerri Fleishacker owns 17 goals and eight assists for 25 points. Goalie Erin McMullan has posted a 7.56 goals against average and 47.3 save percentage on the season.
 
The Bulldogs won the first-ever meeting between the two schools last year, 16-8. The Mountain Hawks took a 5-4 lead early in the second half, but Yale responded to outscore Lehigh 12-3 the rest of the way. Junior Kelsey Yenco and sophomore Megan Paytas helped lead the offense with two goals and two assists apiece.
 
Following Sunday's game, Lehigh will continue Patriot League play with a game at Boston University on  Saturday, April 5.
