
Lehigh hosts California Wednesday in nonleague matchup

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off a 1-1 week, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team returns home to host California on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The game marks the first of a Lehigh lacrosse doubleheader as the men host Monmouth at 7 p.m. The Mountain Hawks look to bounce back from a 12-4 loss at Loyola Saturday.
Lehigh is 4-5 on the season and looks to gain momentum in its final two nonleague games before closing the regular season with four Patriot League contests. The Mountain Hawks travel to Yale Sunday before heading to Boston University (Apr. 5) and Navy (Apr. 9) then welcoming American (Apr. 13) and Holy Cross (Apr. 19).
The Mountain Hawks held tough against perennial national power Loyola in stretches, pulling within 5-2 late in the first half and holding the Greyhounds without a shot on goal over the game's final 14:35. Lehigh converted both of its free position shots on the day.
Four different Mountain Hawks scored a goal: junior Carli Sukonik, freshman Krista Dampman, sophomore Kendall Garden and junior Emily Solenberger. Garden added a game-high four groundballs along with two of Lehigh's five draw controls. Senior Alexandra Fitzpatrick made seven saves between the pipes, five coming in the first half.
Cal is 2-4 on the season with wins over Saint Mary's (Calif.) and Siena. The Golden Bears are coming off a 19-11 loss to #18 Towson and 10-6 defeat at La Salle. Paige Gasparino leads the team in scoring with 19 points (13 goals, six assists) while Bella Huther has a team-leading 18 goals. Gaby Christman is third with 15 points (13 goals, two assists) while three others have reached double-figure points. Christman owns a team-leading 10 caused turnovers and is tied for the team lead in draw controls (18). She also has nine groundballs, one behind the team lead. Helen Hansen has played all but 10 minutes in goal and owns an 11.49 GAA and 36.4 save percentage.
Wednesday marks the first-ever meeting between Lehigh and Cal.
Lehigh will travel to Yale for its final nonleague game of the season, traveling to Yale on Sunday for a 1 p.m. opening draw.
