BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off a dominant 13-2 win over Navy last weekend, the #17/20 Lehigh men's lacrosse team travels to Army on Saturday for a showdown with the Black Knights. Opening faceoff is set for 12 p.m. Lehigh enters the weekend with a 3-1 Patriot League record while Army is 2-1. Saturday's winner will have the inside track towards a top-two seed and bye into the semifinals for the Patriot League Tournament.

Please note that Saturday's game will not be available through the Patriot League Network, but will be available for a charge through Knight Vision. Lehigh will be doing a free audio broadcast, however, with Heath Trabue calling the action.

After Navy pulled within 2-1 midway through the first quarter last Saturday, junior Dan Taylor scored two straight goals to begin a run of eight straight Mountain Hawks' tallies. Junior Klay Heston made it 5-1 Lehigh after one quarter. Lehigh added two in the second quarter and the first three of the second half as a goal from junior Patrick Corbett made it 10-1 at 8:46 of the third quarter. Corbett finished with three goals for his seventh-career hat trick while Heston had two goals as well. Sophomore Reid Weber dished a career-high four assists.

Taylor had a hand in Lehigh's final three goals to reach a career-high eight points behind a career-high five goals and career-high tying three assists. For his efforts, Taylor garnered Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week recognition.

The Lehigh defense continued to impress and has allowed just 6.75 goals per game (fourth in the nation). Saturday's matchup with Army features the Black Knights' #1 scoring defense (5.57 goals per game) against the #4 defense. Lehigh has enjoyed quite a turnaround over the past three seasons, especially defensively. The Mountain Hawks have allowed five or fewer goals 14 times in 42 games over the past three seasons. Lehigh has only allowed five goals (and four even strength goals) over its last two Patriot League games (three at Bucknell and two vs. Navy). Senior Lukas Mikelinich helped lead the defense Saturday, holding the nation's fifth-leading scorer (in points) Sam Jones without a single point and only three shots (one on goal). Lehigh held Navy scoreless for a stretch of 31:54 in the middle of the game, and held the Midshipmen without an even strength goal for the final 51:59.

Saturday's win over Navy marked Lehigh's largest-ever victory over the Midshipmen. Lehigh had gone 98 years between wins over Navy, but snapped the drought in 2010 and has won four straight. The 11-goal margin was Navy's largest ever Patriot League defeat. It was Lehigh's seventh win in its last eight home games and 15th win in its last 16 tries against league foes.

Army has enjoyed a strong start to the season, owning a 4-3 record, beating VMI, Furman, Lafayette and Holy Cross while falling to UMass, Rutgers and Loyola. Last Saturday, the Black Knights hung tough at #2 nationally-ranked Loyola, but fell by a slim 7-6 final. The teams were tied at three after one quarter and at the half before Loyola took a 5-4 lead after three quarters and each team scored twice in the fourth. Army held a 45-35 edge in shots, but Loyola goalie Jack Runkel made 19 saves. Sam Somers made 16 for the Black Knights. John Glesener had 22 shots, scoring twice. The 2013 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year leads the team with 24 points behind 17 goals and seven assists. Will Mazzone has 17 (nine goals, eight assists), Connor Cook has 11 (seven goals, four assists) and Alex Newsome 10 (seven goals, three assists). Alex Daly is 57.4 percent at the faceoff X (70-of-122) and owns a team-leading 40 groundballs. A trio of Black Knights lead the team with seven caused turnovers apiece. Somers has been stellar in goal, owning a 5.42 GAA and 62.1 save percentage for the season.

Lehigh has won three straight over Army to pull within 20-6 in the all-time series. The Mountain Hawks have also won four of the last six and five of the last nine. Army won the first-ever meeting in 1922 by a 4-1 final. The sides didn't reconvene until 1990, a 15-11 Army victory. Lehigh's first win was in 1999 (13-9). The Mountain Hawks have won two of their last three at Army, including a hard-fought 10-6 win last season led by a 37-21 advantage in groundballs and winning 14 of the 20 faceoffs.

Lehigh will return home on Wednesday to host Monmouth at 7 p.m. for a nonleague matchup. The Mountain Hawks then remain home to host Holy Cross next Saturday (Mar. 29) at 2 p.m.
