
Lehigh completes 2-0 weekend with 6-1 win over Niagara

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team posted its second straight victory Sunday at the Lewis Tennis Center as the Mountain Hawks took down a shorthanded Niagara squad 6-1. The Purple Eagles only had five healthy players and the Mountain Hawks took advantage, winning four of five singles matches after splitting the two doubles matches that were contested.
The Mountain Hawks improved to 4-6 on the season with the victory as Lehigh won back-to-back matches for the first time since defeating Hunter College and Colgate in 2011.
Lehigh began doubles play with a win by default at the No. 3 flight. Niagara won the match at No. 1 doubles but freshmen Jess Graham and Jamie Campisi clinched the doubles point for the Mountain Hawks with an 8-2 win over Ashley Ta and Maria Ortiz at the No. 2 flight.
In singles play, a win by default at No. 6 singles gave Lehigh a 2-0 lead before junior Abby Farrell and senior Jenai Bilimoria posted wins at third and first singles, respectively to clinch the match. Farrell downed Ortiz 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 flight, while Bilimoria won 6-1, 6-1 over Ta at the top flight.
Freshmen Cassidy Cruz and Campisi added straight set wins for Lehigh at the No. 2 and No. 5 flights, respectively. Niagara posted its lone win at No. 4 singles as Paulina Velasquez knocked off Graham 6-2, 6-2.
The Mountain Hawks will play their first road match of the season next Sunday when they battle Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia at 1 p.m.
