BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off a slim overtime loss to Bryant Monday, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team looks to improve to 2-0 in Patriot League play when it travels to Colgate to face the Raiders. Opening draw on Saturday is set for 1 p.m. The Mountain Hawks won their league opener last Saturday, 10-4 over Bucknell.
Down 10-7 midway through the second half against Bryant, the Mountain Hawks came back to score five of the next six goals to take a 12-11 lead following junior Carli Sukonik's second straight goal with 1:55 on the clock. Senior goals Alexandra Fitzpatrick enjoyed her second straight outstanding game, making 14 saves. She now has 31 saves over her last two games, allowing just 17 goals.
Colgate enters with a 1-5 record and 0-1 mark in Patriot League play. The Raiders have some tough losses, including to Vermont (14-11), Hofstra (10-8), Canisius (12-11) and Holy Cross (10-9). Berglin has played every minute in goal, owning an 11.83 GAA and 42.7 save percentage.
The Raiders lead the all-time series, 21-11 including wins in each of the past three seasons. Colgate won a 10-9 overtime game a season ago. The Mountain Hawks had won two straight and three of the previous five. The sides first met in 1981, a 6-5 Lehigh victory. Lehigh won eight of the first 13 meetings before Colgate responded with a 10-game winning streak from 1998-2006.
The Mountain Hawks will return to action against Lafayette next Wednesday (Mar. 19) at 7 p.m.
