BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off a career-high 17-save performance against Bucknell Saturday, Lehigh women's lacrosse senior Alexandra Fitzpatrick has been named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, as announced on Monday. It marks Fitzpatrick's fourth-career weekly award and first since earning Defensive Player of the Week honors last February. The Yorktown Heights, N.Y. native also earned Rookie of the Week twice in 2011.
Fitzpatrick began last week by making five saves in a 7-5 loss at Fairfield. She followed that up by stopping 17-of-21 in the Patriot League opener Saturday, including stopping all 10 shots sent her way in the final 21:43. The Bison had pulled within three and continued to charge, but Fitzpatrick stopped the momentum and the Lehigh offense scored three more goals for the 10-4 final.
Fitzpatrick's save percentage was 81 percent on Saturday as she held Bucknell to just 1-of-8 on free position shots. Lehigh held the Bison scoreless over one first-half stretch of 22:22 and over the game's final 21:43.
For the season, Fitzpatrick owns a stellar 5.83 GAA and 55.6 save percentage.
Sophomore Kendall Garden was also recognized with honorable mention laurels. She posted her first-career hat trick against Bucknell Saturday while adding three groundballs and two caused turnovers.
Lehigh is in action on Monday at 4 p.m. against Bryant. The Mountain Hawks will then travel to Colgate on Saturday to face the Raiders. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
