Mountain Hawks picked fifth in preseason poll

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's swimming and diving team has been picked fifth in this year's Patriot League preseason poll announced on Thursday. The Mountain Hawks finished fifth in last year's Patriot League Championship, gaining two individual titles, leading head coach Rob Herb to the Women's Coach of the Meet award for the first time in his career.
In this year's poll, Lehigh earned 96 points and was chosen to finish fifth in the league. Navy was picked first with 160 points with 16 out of 20 first place votes. Navy captured last year's Patriot League title for its third time in a row with 778 total points while Lehigh finished with 139 in fifth place. Boston was picked second with 141 points, followed by Bucknell with 132, and Army with 112.
The Patriot League Preseason Poll is voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
Behind Lehigh, the rest of the preseason poll in order was Colgate (83 points), Loyola (71), American (44), Lafayette (43), and Holy Cross (18).
This year's Patriot League Championship will be held at Bucknell beginning on February 18. Lehigh is looking forward to having seniors such as Kimberly Weyand and Madeleine Smith lead the team this year, in addition to the leaders each class holds. Returning Mountain Hawks include four All-Patriot League selections, including a pair of Patriot League champions Kaitlyn Ruffing, and junior Courtney Patterson.
Lehigh will kick off its season on October 11 when they compete at Boston University.
