Ruffing named Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following a strong individual effort last weekend in Lehigh's season-opening meets at Boston University and Holy Cross, sophomore Kaitlyn Ruffing has been named Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week, it was announced Monday.
Ruffing won three individual events and was also part of three winning relay teams on the weekend. In Boston on Saturday, Ruffing captured the 50 yard freestyle in 23.94 seconds and the 100 free in 52.58. She also anchored the winning 200 medley relay team and the 400 free relay team that posted the top time in the event.
Sunday at Holy Cross, Ruffing won the 50 free with a time of 24.66 seconds and swam the leadoff backstroke leg of the 200 medley relay team that opened the meet with a victory. Ruffing also competed in the 50 yard backstroke against the Crusaders, finishing third with a time of 29.87 seconds.
The reigning Patriot League champion in the 100 yard freestyle, Ruffing earned Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week honors for the second time in her career.
The Mountain Hawks fell 169-125 at Boston University on Saturday before rebounding with a 157-126 win over Holy Cross on Sunday. Lehigh will open its home schedule with meets against West Chester on Friday October 24 and Rider on Saturday October 25.
