No. 20 Lehigh heads to Pacific Northwest to face Oregon State, Boise State

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh will embark on its longest road trip of the season as the Mountain Hawks visit the Pacific Northwest for the first time in 18 years for a pair of duals against Pac-12 foes. The 20th-ranked Mountain Hawks will first head to Corvallis, Oregon to battle No. 24 Oregon State Thursday before traveling to Boise State to meet the Broncos on Sunday.

The Mountain Hawks bounced back from a 33-7 loss at Cornell on January 12 to defeat EIWA rival Navy last Friday night as Lehigh won eight of ten bouts to down the Midshipmen 26-6 inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. Lehigh broke a 6-6 tie by winning the final six bouts. Sophomore heavyweight Max Wessell returned to the Lehigh lineup with a 19-6 major decision win, while sophomore Mason Beckman added a major decision at 133 to improve to 15-2 on the season.

Five Mountain Hawks are ranked in the latest Amateur Wrestling News poll with freshman Elliot Riddick moving up two spots after defeating 11th-ranked Mathew Miller of Navy last week. Beckman is the highest-ranked Mountain Hawk in four polls, coming in as high as No. 6 nationally. Lehigh has six wrestlers ranked by FloWrestling, four by both W.I.N. Magazine and InterMat, with Riddick rejoining the InterMat rankings this week.

When Lehigh visits Oregon State on Thursday it will mark the Mountain Hawks' first dual meet in the Pacific Time zone since 2007. That year Lehigh downed UC Davis and Stanford at the Stanford Duals and then went 2-1 at the Sun Devil Duals in Arizona, beating American and Arizona State and falling to Cal State Fullerton. Lehigh also visited the Pacific Time zone to compete in the 2008 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.

Oregon State enters Thursday's dual with Lehigh at 7-4 overall. The Beavers will be looking to bounce back from a 19-17 upset home loss to North Dakota State on Sunday. Oregon State owns impressive dual wins over Central Michigan, Wyoming and Pac-12 rival Stanford plus the Beavers placed 12th at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and ninth at the Southern Scuffle. Four Beavers are ranked by Amateur Wrestling News led by senior RJ Pena, who is ranked ninth at 157. The other three ranked Beavers are Scott Sakaguchi (No. 16 at 149), Taylor Meeks (No. 11 at 197) and Amarveer Dhesi (No. 17 at 285). Jim Zalesky is in his eighth season as Oregon State's head coach. The Beavers are the defending Pac-12 Tournament champions and tied for eighth at last year's NCAA Championships.

Boise State is currently 2-4 on the dual meet season. The Broncos will travel to Pac-12 rival Arizona State on Friday before returning home to face Lehigh on Sunday. Last time out Boise State to North Dakota State at home last Friday. Boise State's two dual wins so far this season have come against Oregon State and Cal Poly. The Broncos also finished 11th at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and also competed at the Reno Tournament of Champions. Boise State has just two wrestlers currently ranked by Amateur Wrestling News. Senior Jake Swartz is ranked sixth at 184 while senior heavyweight J.T. Felix is ranked eighth. Greg Randall is in his 12th season as Boise State's head coach. The Broncos finished second in the Pac-12 a year ago and took 19th at NCAAs.

Thursday's dual marks Lehigh's second-ever visit to Corvallis and its first since December 31, 1995. The Mountain Hawks are wrestling Boise State for just the second time.
