Mountain Hawks welcome league newcomer Loyola Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Looking to snap a two-game skid, the Lehigh women's basketball team will welcome league newcomer Loyola into Stabler Arena Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest. The Mountain Hawks aim to move to 2-2 in league play, while the Greyhounds hunt for their first-ever Patriot League win. Fans can view the game in the Lehigh Valley on Service Electric 2 Sports, online for free via the Patriot League Network or listen on 91.3-WLVR or wlvr.org.

In their most recent contest, the Mountain Hawks fell behind early in a 74-63 loss at Army on Wednesday evening. Following a 14-point halftime deficit, Lehigh was able to narrow the Black Knight lead to five points midway through the closing half, but Army held on to claim the win and remain undefeated at home and in league play.

Junior Sarah Williams led the Mountain Hawks with 13 points, followed by sophomore Kerry Kinek with 11. Three Mountain Hawks tallied five rebounds apiece, while junior Katie O'Reilly snatched a team-leading four steals.

Lehigh finished the game 38.5 percent (20-for-52) from the floor and 23.1 percent (3-for-13) from three-point range. The Black Knights shot 48.2 percent (27-for56) from the field and 35.3 percent (6-of-17) from long distance. Army finished the game with a 38-29 rebound advantage.

The Mountain Hawks have struggled as of late, dropping four of their last five games. Prior to the skid, Lehigh had won four of five contests. The Mountain Hawks carry a 6-2 home record into Saturday's contest.

Loyola looks to snap its four game losing streak and claim its first Patriot League win when the Greyhounds travel to Bethlehem Saturday.

The Greyhounds fell to American, 52-34, on Wednesday afternoon. Loyola put up just ten points in the first half and only 12 more through the first 18 minutes of the second half. A 12-2 Greyhound run in the final two minutes of the game was too little, too late as Loyola was handed its third league loss in as many games.

Freshman Lisa Mirarchi led Loyola with 11 points, while Jeneh Perry recorded a game-high 11 rebounds in her second career start. The Greyhounds finished the game shooting 20.4 (11-for-54) percent from the field and 15.4 percent (2-for-13) from three-point range.

Nai Brown's average of 14.6 points per game leads the Greyhounds, followed by Kara Marshall with 13.5. Tiffany Padgett averages a team-leading 6.1 rebounds per game, while Mirarchi has tallied a team-best 33 assists. Mirarchi has shot 91.7 percent (44-for-48) from the free throw line, which ranks seventh nationally and second in the Patriot League.

Loyola's average of 53.5 points per game ranks last in the league, as does their field goal percentage (35.0), rebounding (33.1) and assists per game (9.9) and assist per turnover ratio (0.6).

The two teams will meet for the seventh time, with Lehigh holding a 4-2 advantage. The Mountain Hawks have never lost to the Greyhounds on their home hardwood.

Loyola forced 19 Mountain Hawk turnovers and turned those giveaways into 18 points. For the game, the Brown and White shot 30.0 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from long range on a 6-of-21 effort.
