Six crews advance to Saturday at Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA - Six of the eight crews from Lehigh rowing advanced to Saturday's Semifinals in a highly successful day one at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta Friday. The six semifinalists are more than last season as the Mountain Hawks continue to show tremendous improvement. Saturday's Finals will be broadcast live on 6ABC in Philadelphia and online on ESPN3.com.
“From top to bottom, we performed to the level that we've been striving for all year,” said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. “We come to the Dad Vails every year to do that. It's exciting to the crews that made it to tomorrow, but even those who didn't, they raced at a very high level and barely missed making the semifinals.”
Both the Men's and Women's Novice Four and Eight advanced to the semifinals while the Women's Varsity Four and Women's Varsity Eight made the cut as well, and will row Saturday looking to qualify for the finals and earn a medal.
“I think the Women's Varsity Four really stepped up,” said Conley. “Going into an event going against some teams' top people can be difficult. They went out there and raced to the best of their ability and it was great to watch them advance.”
Lehigh's freshmen continue to impress as all four of the freshmen crews advanced to Saturday.
“For the freshmen to be doing this well at this level of racing is always great for the future of the program,” said Conley. “We want them to develop us even further from this regatta to the next regatta and down the road.”
