PRINCETON, N.J. – The Lehigh women's track and field team split between the Greyhound and Larry Ellis Invitationals at Moravian and Princeton, registering impressive finishes at both.
“We had solid and competitive performances all around, and it was definitely a good tune up for the Patriot League Championships,” Lehigh head coach Matt Utesch said.
In the field events at the Greyhound Invitational, freshman Gabrielle Wardle tied for fourth in high jump with 1.53 meters, while junior Alexis Wachter and freshman Elizabeth Chelius tied for seventh by clearing a height of 1.48 meters. Junior Brooke Astor won the long jump with a mark of 5.23 meters and sophomore Natalie Bates came in third with a finish of 5.08 meters. Astor led the way in the javelin throw by placing in fifth. Wardle, freshman Adriana Vukmanic and sophomore Carly Deskins finished eighth, ninth and 10th respectively.
Junior Jessica Kendzor, senior Lauren Pietrosh and senior Kathleen Ryan represented Lehigh at the Larry Ellis Invitational by competing in the 800 meter run. Senior captain Victoria Berard ran the 5000 meters in 18:07.43 to finish 58th out of a field of 77 competitors, while junior Hannah Pierce participated in 3000 meter steeplechase.
The Mountain Hawks will compete in the Penn Relays, which last from Thursday to Saturday, while also hosting the Lehigh Games on Friday and Saturday at the Goodman Campus.
“We're excited to be coming home for the first time this outdoor season and I think our seniors are too,” Utesch said. “Having the home crowd behind us generally bodes well for our performances.”
