Brown and White excel at Penn Relays and Lehigh Games

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's track and field team took part in both the Penn Relays and Lehigh Games this weekend in final preparation for the Patriot League Championships. No team scores were kept at either last chance qualifying meet.
While hosting the Lehigh Games, the Mountain Hawks grabbed the top five spots in the 800 meter run. Seniors Lauren Pietrosh (2:13.39), Julia Perry (2:14.01), Kathleen Ryan (2:14.27) and Brittany Pietrosh (2:15.51) finished first through fourth, and sophomore Ingrid Simon wasn't too far behind with a time of 2:16.77.
The 800 meters was one of five track events that Lehigh took first place in. Senior captain Victoria Berard won the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:45.42, while sophomore Shannon Nelson finished first in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:30.45. The Mountain Hawks also swept the hurdles events, as Astor won the 100 meters in 14.79 seconds and sophomore Natalie Bates took the 400 meters in 1:05.15.
Freshman Carlie Skellington finished second in the 3000 meter steeplechase at 11:46.24, while junior Marissa Galante, sophomore Elizabeth Sinclair, and junior Katherine Howley placed fourth through sixth in the 1500 meter run. Three Lehigh sprinters finished in the top five in the 100 meter dash, as senior Khaaleedah Smith came in second (12.61) while sophomore Halie Carter edged senior Kristin Slotnick by just 0.01 seconds to finish in fourth. Carter, Slotnick and Smith also competed in the 200 meter dash, crossing the finish line in the second through fourth spots respectively.
The Brown and White will host the Patriot League Championships on May 3 and 4 at the Goodman Campus for the first time in six seasons.
