LEWISBURG, Pa. – Fresh off their dual meet at rival Lafayette last weekend, the Lehigh men's track and field team headed to Moravian and Bucknell for the Pollard Invite and Bison Outdoor Classic this weekend. A meet record fell at the Pollard Invite, a new school record was set at Bucknell and six athletes qualified for the IC4A Championships after both meets had concluded.
“That was a solid performance for them, but I think they can do a little bit better,” Lehigh head coach Matt Utesch said. “As we continue to work on handoffs and refine our strides we can get faster by the championships.”
Monroe, Mahoney and Otieno were members of the first-place 4x400 meter relay team along with sophomore Christopher Watson. The four sprinted to an IC4A qualifying time of 3:19.54, which was just 0.08 seconds faster than the second place squad. Monroe also won the 400 meter dash after crossing the finish line in 48.42 seconds.
The Mountain Hawks had two more IC4A qualifiers in senior Lyle O' Brien and junior Tyler Mueller, who competed at the Bison Outdoor Classic. O'Brien finished fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:11.54, while Mueller ran the 10,000 meters in 29:54.25 to set a new school record.
Lehigh will split between the Greyhound Invitational at Moravian on April 19 and the Larry Ellis Invitational on April 19 and 20 in Princeton, N.J.
