GAINSEVILLE, Fla. - Second-ranked Florida jumped on Lehigh early and often as the Gators downed the Lehigh women's lacrosse team 18-2 on Tuesday. The Mountain Hawks hung tough down the stretch, scoring two of the six second-half goals while holding a 5-2 edge in draw controls over the final 30 minutes. Lehigh will look to bounce back when it returns home Saturday to host Colgate in a big Patriot League showdown.

“Florida deserves every bit of their number two ranking,” said Lehigh head coach Jill Redfern. “They are an outstanding team. We are confident that we will take this competitive experience and use it to our benefit.”
The Gators poured on the offense in the first half, taking 25 shots as 14 went in to take a commanding halftime advantage. However, the Mountain Hawks bounced back in numerous ways in the second, getting goals from sophomore Carli Sukonik and freshman Megan Paytas while senior goalie MaryLeah DiNisco came in to stop six-of-10 shots. Lehigh hung tough in shots (13-8) while owning a 5-2 edge in draw controls to pull within 13-9 for the game. Sukonik and senior Julie McBrien led Lehigh with two draw controls apiece.

Five Gators posted multiple goals, led by Nora Barry with three. Florida held a 38-12 edge in shots, 25-13 in groundballs and 13-9 in draw controls.

Lehigh returns to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Saturday to host Colgate at 1 p.m.
