DiMaria, Fantoni and Poillon named to Tewaaraton Watch List

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh senior attackmen David DiMaria and Dante Fantoni along with sophomore goalie Matt Poillon have been named to the 2013 Tewaaraton Award Watch List, as announced on Friday. The list includes the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse and highlights the early contenders for the pre-eminent award in college lacrosse. Colgate's Peter Baum won the award last season.
Lehigh leads the Patriot League with three of its 11 candidates while Colgate has two (Baum and Ryan Walsh), Bucknell two (Kyle Feeney and Mike Huffner), Army two (John Glesener and Garrett Thul) and Holy Cross (James Kennedy) and Navy (Tucker Hull) one apiece.
Prior to last season, Fantoni and senior Ryan Snyder were named to the Tewaaraton Watch List.
DiMaria has enjoyed a stellar start to the season, posting seven points in each of his first two games. He posted a career-high six goals and an assist in the season opener vs. Saint Joseph's then followed that up with three goals and four assists at Villanova. The Dix Hills, N.Y. native is currently second in the nation in career assists among active players (82), only trailing Cornell's Rob Pannell.
Fantoni is second on the team in goals, assists and points thus far, posting six goals and four assists. He scored four goals in last Saturday's big 11-9 win at Villanova, the Mountain Hawks' first win at Villanova since 1997. Fantoni is riding a 44-game point streak dating back to freshman year as he's eclipsed 40 points in each of his first three seasons.
Meanwhile, Poillon has been as strong as ever through two games, owning a 5.23 goals against average and 70.6 save percentage. The reigning Patriot League Goalie of the Year is two-for-two in Patriot League Goalie of the Week awards, stopping eight-of-nine in the opener vs. Saint Joseph's before tying a career high with 16 saves at Villanova last week.
All three were named preseason All-Americans by Inside Lacrosse.
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and top female college lacrosse player in the United States.The selection committees are made up of top collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation. Committees will make additions to these lists as the season progresses and athletes earn a spot alongside these elite players. Both lists will be narrowed to 25 men's and women's nominees in late April. In mid-May, five men's and five women's finalists will be announced. These finalists will be invited to Washington, D.C. for the 13th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony, May 30 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian.
The Mountain Hawks return to action this weekend when they travel to Denver to face the #11 Pioneers on Saturday and Air Force Sunday as part of Denver's annual Face-Off Classic.
