Rowing wraps up fall at Rutgers Fall Classic Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a long layoff from competition, the Lehigh rowing team wraps up its fall schedule by competing in the Rutgers Fall Classic on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a strong effort at Navy Day on Oct. 12 and look to carry strong momentum into winter training and the ensuing spring slate.
Â
The only crew to compete since Navy Day was an alumni boat at the Head of the Charles in Boston.
"It's been a good time off to allow us to get back to basics," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "The new schedule really allowed us to learn from the previous races to hopefully make for some fast boats this weekend."
Â
The team always wants to be successful and hopes to end the fall on a high note.
Â
"The fall in general is to get a sense of where our competitors are in speed and to get some race experience under our belts," said Conley. "We set up the new schedule to race faster crews all fall to help us raise our games, so I'm expecting Lehigh to go faster than we have all year."
Â
The winner of Saturday's race will be determined by combining the time of the top two finishing crews of each team.
"All the crews we'll be racing were ranked higher than Lehigh last year. We are looking to dig up some speed we haven't seen before," said Conley.
