
Lehigh moves to 4-0 with first win over Colgate since 2004

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's swimming and diving team continued its impressive start to the season with a 183.5-97.5 win over Colgate in the Mountain Hawks' home opener Saturday at Jacobs Pool. The Mountain Hawks won 11 of 16 events on the day to post their first win over the Raiders since November 2004 and improve to 4-0 on the young season.

"What a great day," said Lehigh head coach Rob Herb. "Our women continued to tear things up. They swam well to get to 4-0 which is our best start in my years here. I'm very proud of this team. Very proud!"

Sophomore Courtney Patterson won three individual events to pace the Mountain Hawks, including a top three sweep in the 200 free with a winning time of 1:53.79. Sophomore Carolyn Koch and freshman Kelly Carroll finished second and third respectively.

Patterson later won the 500 free in 5:02.26 and added a win in the 200 IM in 2:08.21.

Freshman Kaitlyn Ruffing continued to shine in the sprints, winning the 50 free in 23.94 seconds and the 100 in 52.65. Koch finished second in both events. Carroll added a win in the 100 fly in 58.96 seconds to go along with her third place finish in the 200 free relay.

Lehigh also captured both breaststroke events, with sophomore Rebekah Campo leading a top three sweep in the 100 with a time of 1:08.51. Sophomore Melissa Feeney won the 200 in 2:26.58 and finished second in the 100. Junior Kim Weyand finished second in the 200 and third in the 100 for the Mountain Hawks.

Junior Mary Samuels led a sweep in the 200 fly with a time of 2:09.30 Classmate Alissa Leung picked up important points with second place finishes in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke events, while freshman Cora Summerfield led a 2-3-4 performance from Lehigh in the 1000 free.

Lehigh also controlled the relays with Leung, Campo, Samuels and Ruffing taking the 200 medley relay in 1:46.30 and Koch, Patterson, Carroll and Ruffing winning the 400 free relay in 3:33.88.

The Mountain Hawks will return to action at the Princeton Open, November 15-16 in New Jersey.
