
Lehigh women have strong showing on final day of Princeton Open

PRINCETON, N.J. The Lehigh women's swimming and diving team wrapped up two-day competition at the unscored Princeton Open at DeNunzio Pool on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks competed against host Princeton and Fordham in multiple events.

The Lehigh team of juniors Alissa Leung, Kimberly Weyand, Mary Samuels and freshman Kaitlyn Ruffing swam their way to a third place finish in the 200 yard medley relay to begin the day with a strong time of 1:48.78.

Two swimmers finished in the top four of the 400 IM, led by sophomore Courtney Patterson in second place (4:30.56). Freshman Kelly Carroll took fourth place with a 4:34.57 mark.

Junior Mary Samuels led the charge in the 100 fly with a mark of 58.74 to take 11th place.

Patterson continued her strong showing with a fifth place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.34, while Weyand was Lehigh's top finisher in the 100 breast with an eighth place finish (1:08.91).

Leung placed fourth in the 100 back with a time of 59.22 and was followed by Ruffing in 11th place (1:01.12). Leung was also Lehigh's top finisher in the 200 back with a 2:12.50 clip. Ruffing was the top Mountain Hawk finisher in the 100 free as she swam her way to a third place finish with a 52.62 mark.

Lehigh claimed third place in the 800 free relay with a 7:48.87 mark. The Mountain Hawks were represented by Carroll, freshman Cora Summerfield, Patterson and sophomore Carolyn Koch.

Patterson continued her busy day with a fourth place finish in the 1650 free, swimming to a time of 17:25.81.

Weyand and Leung recorded top ten finishes in the 200 breast, as Weyand led the way with a sixth place finish and 2:29.03 mark. Leung placed ninth (2:29.56).Â

Four Mountain Hawks placed in the top ten of the 200 fly. Patterson led the charge in sixth place (2:09.26), followed by Summerfield in seventh (2:10.00), freshman Valerie Lauer in ninth (2:10.89) and Samuels in tenth (2:10.97).
