Patterson paces Mountain Hawks on day one of Princeton Open

PRINCETON, N.J. – Sophomore Courtney Patterson finished second in the 500 yard freestyle to lead the Lehigh women's swimming and diving team on day one of the Princeton Open Friday at DeNunzio Pool. The Mountain Hawks competed against Fordham and the host Tigers in five swimming events on the evening.

Patterson posted a time of 5:01:70 in the 500 free leading five Mountain Hawks who placed in the top 20. Freshman Cora Summerfield finished eighth while sophomore Carolyn Koch placed 14th. Juniors Madeleine Smith and Mary Samuels took 18th and 19th respectively.

Lehigh opened the meet as the 200 free relay team of Koch, senior Stephanie Yaszemski and freshmen Kelly Carroll and Kaitlyn Ruffing finished third with a time of 1:38.16.

Carroll led Lehigh in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.13 to finish sixth, while Patterson finished one spot behind in seventh.

Ruffing posted a time of 23.74 seconds to take third in the 50 free with Koch finishing tenth and Carroll in 12th place.

Day one of the Princeton Open concluded with Samuels and Ruffing teaming with junior Alissa Leung and sophomore Melissa Feeney to finish eighth in the 400 medley relay.
