Lehigh sends 32 to compete in IC4A/ECAC Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After solid showings at the Patriot League Championships, 32 student-athletes from the Lehigh men's and women's track and field teams will compete at the IC4A/ECAC Championships this weekend in Boston, Mass. The men's events will start at 11 a.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday while the women will start at 9 a.m. Saturday at 1 p.m. Sunday. The men's team will be sending 21 qualifiers while the women will have 11.
Among the men's qualifiers will be All-Patriot Leaguers Stephen Tutunjian and Kyle Forrest.
Tutunjian was named the Male Field Athlete of the Meet at the Patriot League Championships as he took first in the triple jump (7.10m) and long jump (14.71m) and will compete in both events this weekend.
Forrest took second in the heptathlon at the Championships with a personal best of 4,932 points while Ryan Paquin took third with a personal best of 4,814 points as they both will compete in the event this weekend.
Along with Tutunjian, six other Mountain Hawks will compete in two events this weekend. Devine Monroe and Martin Otieno will both compete in the 200-meter run and 4X400 meter-relay (they will be joined in the 4X400 by Paul Ciavardelli and Justin Mahoney).
Other two-event participants include Sam Bernitt (Mile, DMR), Kenny Wilkinson (4X800, DMR) and Dan Paez (4X800, DMR).
Evan Flach will compete in the mile along with Bernitt. Wilkinson and Paez will be joined in the 4X800-meter relay by Greg Caldwell and Chris Watson and in the DMR by Seth Robinson and Simon Voorhees.
Lehigh will have three runners in the 5,000-meter race in Evans Kosgei, James Miller and Tyler Mueller. And the Mountain Hawks will also have three participants in the high jump in Patrick Ciez, Lou Adesida, Steve Rumizen.
Lehigh finished 31st at last year's IC4As as Kosgei, Ciez and Tutunjian earned All-East honors. Kosgei set the school record in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:18.91, winning his specific heat and finishing sixth overall. Ciez cleared 1.99 and 2.04 meters in the high jump to place seventh while Tutunjian placed fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 14.81 meters.
Perry two Championships came on the 4X800 relay team and the DMR as she will compete alongside Kendzor in those events this weekend. Perry will also be racing in the 1,000-meter run.
All-Patriot Leaguer Katherine Pierce will be the seventh Mountain Hawk to compete in multiple events as she will race in the 5,000-meter and 3,000-meter run.
Four Mountain Hawks will compete in single events. Patriot League Champion Brooke Astor will compete in the pentathlon after she took first in the Championships with 3,450 points. All-Patriot Leaguer E'Lana Lemon will look to continue her stellar season as she competes in the weight throw while All-Patriot Leaguer Savanna Plombon will compete in the 3,000-meter run.
And Alexandra Doersam, who set the school record in the long jump (18-10ft, 5.74m) this season, will compete in the long jump this weekend.
Lehigh finished 43rd at last year's ECACs as Kendzor had an All-East performance, as she set the Lehigh school record in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:52.37, breaking her own record of 2:52.79 which she had set the day prior in the preliminaries.
All-East honors are earned by finishing in the top eight in an event.
