BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sophomore back Ali Famili earned first team All-Patriot League honors after a solid 2012 performance as a part of the Mountain Hawk defense. Famili tallied the second-most minutes (1,469) for Lehigh this season, playing in 16 games and making 15 starts to help anchor a defense that allowed just 1.47 goals per game, which was good for fourth-best in the Patriot League.
Along with his stellar defensive play, Famili scored the game-winning goal in a tremendously important match against Navy in Annapolis, Md. on October 13. After fellow sophomore Rylan Collins made a steal in the Midshipmen midfield, he found Famili inside the left post as the Orefield, Pa. native ripped the ball into the back of the net for his first-career goal to give Lehigh a 2-1 lead in the 72nd minute.
His 15 starts on the season tied juniors Ben Wysocki and James Meyerkord for the most by any Mountain Hawks. Over 34 career games, Famili has started 33 in the Lehigh backfield, as the sophomore adapted well to his new role on this year's club, firing a career-best 15 shots, eight of which were on-goal and recording his first-career points. This is his second-career Patriot League award garnered by the sophomore after earning the Patriot League's Defensive Player of the Week award for the period ending on October 21.
