BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Just one day after being named Lehigh's first IWLCA All-American since 1996, Lehigh women's lacrosse senior Lauren Dykstra has been selected for the IWLCA North-South All-Star Game, as announced Tuesday evening. The game will take place at the Champions' Cup, held at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa. on Saturday, June 11.
One of 109 senior student-athletes selected across all three divisions, Dykstra will suit up for the South. Each division will have a separate North-South game, beginning with Division I at 12 p.m. followed by Division II at 1 p.m. and Division III at 2 p.m.
“The North-South game features the best and most accomplished seniors in the country,” said Lehigh head coach Jill Redfern. “It is a great honor for Lauren to be invited and we are very proud to have Lehigh represented in such a prestigious game.”
The event will precede the IWLCA All-American banquet, which will take place at the Crown Plaza Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa., later that evening. Dykstra was named a Third Team All-American on Monday, becoming Lehigh's first IWLCA All-America honoree since Jill Altshuler in 1996. Dykstra has also been named a Synapse Sports First Team All-American and WomensLax.com All-American.
Dykstra has continued to rack in the awards following a sensational senior season, and career. A four-time All-Patriot League performer, she won her fourth major award in as many seasons in 2010, earning Midfield Player of the Year. This came after winning Rookie of the Year as a freshman, Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore and Defensive Player of the Year as a junior.
The Mendham, N.J. native finished her storied career with a Lehigh and Patriot League record 257 career goals, which stands sixth most in NCAA history. That earned her a mention in Sports Illustrated's “Faces in the Crowd” last month. After posting 79, 75 then 62 points in her first three seasons, Dykstra went off her senior year for a career-high 86 points via 72 goals and 14 assists. Her 4.24 goals per game led the nation while her goal total stood third best. She was also fifth nationally with her 86 points and second in points per game (5.06).
Dykstra posted a point in all 69 career games, scoring a goal in 68 of them. She ended her career riding an impressive 49-game goal streak.
Also strong defensively, Dykstra finished the season third on the Mountain Hawks in groundballs (33), draw control (33) and caused turnovers (20). This, while covering one of the opposition's top offensive players.
